Claiming and Competing for Sovereignty
Claiming and Competing for Sovereignty¶
Required Skills¶
Before you can claim sovereignty, you need to research the appropriate skills:
Core Skill¶
- Sovereignty: Unlocks the Sovereignty skill tree (prerequisite for all sovereignty activities)
Claim Capacity Skills¶
These determine how many sovereign squares you can claim per city:
- Serfs: Up to 3 Sovereign Squares per city
- Peasants: Up to 6 Sovereign Squares per city
- Thralls: Up to 10 Sovereign Squares per city
- Lieges: Up to 15 Sovereign Squares per city
- Subjects: Up to 20 Sovereign Squares per city
Sovereignty Level Skills¶
These determine the maximum sovereignty level you can claim:
- Landholding: Allows Sovereignty Level I
- Tenancy: Allows Sovereignty Level II
- Fiefdom: Allows Sovereignty Level III
- Vassalage: Allows Sovereignty Level IV
- Feudalism: Allows Sovereignty Level V
How to Initiate a Sovereignty Claim¶
- Send an Army: You must send an army to Occupy the square
- Start the Claim: Click on the Occupying Army and select "Claim Sovereignty"
- Optional Acceleration: The army doesn't need to remain, but if it stays, claiming time is halved
Competing for Sovereignty¶
Taking Sovereignty from Another Player¶
If another player already has sovereignty on a square:
- Match Their Upkeep: You must pay the sovereignty upkeep amount for that level (with your own distance modifier)
- Occupy the Square: Park an army on the square
- Initiate Counter-Claim: Click on your army and choose "Claim Sovereignty"
- Hold the Square: Maintain occupation to remove opponent's sovereignty at twice the normal speed
- Rebuild: Once the square returns to non-sovereign status, initiate your own claim
Multiple Competing Claims¶
- If multiple players have identical claims without armies present, sovereignty percentage is blocked and remains unchanged
- When an army from one claimant occupies the square, their claim becomes paramount
- The current holder loses sovereignty at twice the normal speed
Managing Your Sovereignty¶
Viewing Sovereignty on the Map¶
- Mouse over any square to see sovereignty information
- "Influence Borders" option highlights claimed territory
- Information displayed includes:
- Who owns or is claiming sovereignty
- Current sovereignty level and progression
- What sovereign structures are built
Giving Up Sovereignty¶
- Go to the "Sovereignty" tab in your Castle
- Select the square from the list
- Choose "Cease Claim"
- Sovereignty drops from 100% to 0% at twice the claiming speed
- When it reaches 0%, structures dependent on that level are automatically downgraded
Effects of Hostile Occupation¶
When a hostile or neutral army occupies your sovereign square:
Immediate Effects¶
- Structure Benefits Cease: You immediately lose all benefits from structures on that square
- Resource Siphoning: The occupying army siphons resources generated by or pumped into structures
- Capacity Limits: Army fills to carrying capacity, excess resources are lost
Notifications¶
- Email Alerts: You receive notifications when armies occupy your squares
- Intelligence Reports: Residents report the player name and town name of the occupying force
- No Troop Counts: You still need to scout to determine army size
Strategic Note: Occupying someone's sovereign square is both a method of resource theft and a way to halt or reverse sovereignty claims.
